About the space
the REAL DREAM Studio and Gallery aims to expand one’s awareness through art. It serves as both Daphna Saker Massey’s studio and a gallery showing works by Angus Massey and Æ.
Æ is a Berlin-based artist that works with the Yperea Bold Condensed font, which he designed and uses to deliver words and ideas that explore the relationship between reality and the self.
Daphna’s Art work is the work created during the real dream session and the self portraits she makes while forming new tools for the method.
Drawing from Eastern philosophies, Angus Massey’s work is at once classical and contemporary. He uses the human figure as a form to question our commonly held notions of consciousness, reality and the self. After early training in life drawing and graphic design in Ireland, Massey moved to Italy where he worked for more than ten years in various sculpture studios around Pietrasanta, Florence and Siena. He has also travelled extensively in Africa and India where he worked with stone and bronze. By combining the two-dimensional weightless, silent reflection of the mirror with three-dimensional heavy, solid bronze forms, his figures unite differing realms of perception – proposing a synthesis of elements, dimensions and realities – in perfect symmetry. The physical and the spiritual exist side by side, forming a unified whole.
"I am interested in questioning the divisions we impose upon reality in order to understand it, the boundaries inherent in our attempts to comprehend and organise our perceived universe and how we can transcend those boundaries. The theory that inspires my work is largely based on eastern philosophy, in particular Shaivism and Advaita, philosophies that propose an underlying unity to all reality.”
